JAMAICA LOCATION
How to get to us!
1. You can get on a "tourist" bus (c. US$25pp) at the airport. They tend to wait until they fill up, and then stop for a "rest stop" and at a couple of hotels on the way. This can result in serious delays. They usually come down to the house, but, if not, try to have them drop you at Sandals Ocho Rios, Riviera (NOT Sandals Dunn's River), and we can come and pick you up in two minutes.
2. Take a taxi. Do not take the first lot of drivers that are waiting immediately at the exit from the arrivals hall - they will charge the "official" rate of approx. US$120 - say that you are being met. You will immediately be approached by several drivers offering their services, and this is where you get a chance to hone your negotiating skills. The lowest I have managed recently is US$80, but par is US$100.
3. Take a public minibus. Terrifying, crowded, noisy, and only for the very intrepid. Not recommended, but cheap. We would pick you up from the transportation centre in Ocho Rios.
4. We can send a driver from here, but it is more complicated (driver hanging around, possibility of missing each other, flight or traffic delays, etc.) and no cheaper.
5. You can rent a car at the airport – several companies have offices and cars on the spot, many with websites for reservations. If you are arriving in the evening, we do not recommend driving yourselves. Driving in Jamaica is interesting at the best of times, but an apparently genetic incapability of dipping headlights makes it a nightmare after dark. There are several rental agencies near the cottage if you want that independence once you are here.
