HARMONY HALL NEWS – JUNE 2011
The flying start that we referred to in our January newsletter kept on going throughout our 30th season,
with great turnouts, glorious weather and lots of fun. Both book launches were phenomenal. Graham Davis set
a record for number of books sold at a Harmony Hall launch, with lots of people eager to see him and to have
information about his work. The record only lasted for a couple of weeks, when One Mush, about the Jamaican
dogsled team, kept author John Firth and star musher Newton Marshall signing books into the evening. A team
of dogs from Chukka Cove were the highlight of the afternoon, giving a wonderfully exuberant display,
pulling a light rig around the garden.

Jamaica generally seems to have enjoyed a good season, although many visitors were understandably cautious in their spending. The economic news continues to be rather gloomy here and around the world. Every time it looks as though things are finally getting better, some bad news always seems to
set the recovery back. We count ourselves extremely lucky to have found a niche that keeps Harmony Hall trundling along, and our cottages occupied.

The big news in Costa Rica is that we have added a bathroom upstairs in La Casita. The Talamanca
tradition of having the bathroom in a separate building has much to commend it, but it loses some of
its charm when a visit is called for in the middle of a stormy night. Annabella has just got back from
a six-week stay, and is as enchanted as ever. Seeing a sloth in one of the trees in the garden was a
special treat, while the monkey chorus at 5 a.m. became a mixed blessing! The beach was as unspoilt as
ever, making for wonderful walks with the three adopted dogs..

As always, we finish by thanking all of you who continue to provide us with the motivation to keep
on doing things that we love and friends, artists, artisans, staff, and, of course, our fantastic customers.
